Summertime in Alsace

Alsace is one of those areas where I keep going for the tranquility (well, away from the tourists) and the joie de vivre. Like so many others, I find this area quintessential to the French lifestyle. In reality, of course, this idea is formed by me being a foreigner with little idea of the daily life.

Nonetheless, Alsace in southeastern France is one of those regions that have retained the French charm that so many of us look for when we explore the French countryside.

With that said, check out these Alsatian sayings that come in handy during wine travels in Alsace..

Quand le vin est tiré, il faut le boi. – When the wine has been drawn, it should be drunk.

À la tienne. – Cheers to you

cave à vins. – Wine shop

Oh, and you will no doubt receive advice from winemakers and wine shops (), so this phrase comes in handy:

Quel vin est-ce que vous me recommandez? – Which wine do you recommend?

Je vous remercie pour votre conseil. – Thank you for your advice.

And if you’re not happy with your choice, try this phrase:

J’aimerais que vous nous changiez la bouteille. – I would like you to change the bottle.

Are you combining a meal with wine? Then try this..

Quel vin est-ce que vous me conseillez pour aller avec ce plat? – Which wine do you recommend to go with this dish?

Enjoy Alsace in summertime!
